When and where was "mineral water" found for the first time and were there actually several competing mineral water companies in Gerolstein in the past? Was there a "town wall" in Gerolstein? Even "old-established Gerolsteiners" are often unable to answer these and similar questions about the town's history, and if they can, then usually only from stories rather than from their own memories.
