Rund um den Arensberg
Walsdorf
The varied circular trail leads through the idyllic Loogh, to the geologically impressive Arensberg volcanic hilltop and past the historic Arnulphus Chapel.
The hike around the Arensberg starts and ends at the parish hall in Zilsdorf. From there, the approximately 10.4-kilometre circular trail leads through the gently undulating landscape of the Volcanic Eifel. The trail is classified as moderately difficult and is ideal for hikers looking for a balanced mix of nature enjoyment and exercise. After starting in Zilsdorf, you reach the idyllic village of Loogh, which invites you to linger with its quiet alleyways and the Gröner Hof with its restaurant and show dairy. The route continues through meadows and forests to the Arensberg, a striking volcanic hilltop of great geological significance. It is the only surviving volcanic peak from the Tertiary period and was formed by two eruptions around 32 and 24 million years ago. The Arensberg offers fascinating insights into the region's volcanic past. The trail then continues past a small chapel dedicated to St. Arnulphus to Zilsdorf, where the tour ends at the starting point.
