Traditionally, the Eifel Association Gerolstein hikes to the New Year's salute shooting at the Löwenburg rock. The meeting point is at 10:00 am at the Fountain Square. Hiking enthusiasts and residents of Gerolstein are warmly invited to participate in the approximately 1.5-hour long, free guided hike. No registration is required. The hikers will be welcomed at the Löwenburg ruins around 12:00 pm with a New Year's greeting and the salute shooting.

The New Year's salute shooting from the Löwenburg rock begins immediately after the New Year's greeting and the noon tolling of the Gerolstein church bells. The incomparable location of the spa town between the impressive dolomite rocks offers, especially for the salute shooting, unique conditions. The breathtaking backdrop is already a guarantee for a spectacular start to the new calendar year. This extraordinary New Year's experience is complemented during the salute shooting by the penetrating use of cannon fire from various large calibers, hand grenades, trumpets, horns, and fanfares, whose echoes resonate uniquely from the rocks. Salute shooters and musicians with various facets take turns throughout the salute shooting, providing an unforgettable auditory experience.

Following the salute shooting, we will toast to the new year together. At a cozy gathering at the Löwenburg, the local chapter of the German Red Cross Gerolstein e.V. will take care of our culinary well-being.
