Unterwegs - Maare, Dreese und Natur

Jul 15, 2024

Duppach

"All about water" is the motto of this adventure t
our. And so we set off together to discover the mineral springs and maars of the Volcanic Eifel. Let's go to the Aueler, Steffelner and Duppacher Drees as well as to the idyllic Eichholzmaar! Where does this water come from and what is the connection between mineral water and volcanism? Why does the Duppach pond have no water, while the idyllically situated Eichholzmaar has had a maar lake again since 2008 and is one of the "Blue Eyes of the Eifel"? And to what extent does the element of water play a decisive role in the formation of the maar? We will get to the bottom of these questions! Finally, we will round off the topic with a tasting of various volcanic mineral waters. Which one do you like best?

What's living in the Eifelbach? This Sunday's hike takes us to an Eifel stream, where the biologist, Mr Gerd Rieder, is already waiting for us. Together we will look for small animals in the stream, which the expert will name and explain to us how they live. We recommend bringing wellies.
