The guest contribution from 01.01.2024

April 9, 2024

Tourist infrastructure in the municipality of Gerolstein is getting fit for the future - From 1 January 2024, the Gerolstein Land holiday region will introduce a digital registration system and a standardised guest contribution.

The wide range of tourist attractions in the Upper Kyll, Gerolsteiner Land and Hillesheimer Land make the region attractive and worth living in for visitors and locals alike. At the same time, tourism provides important sources of income and numerous jobs for the towns and municipalities.

The municipality of Gerolstein has invested in tourism as an economic factor. To co-finance this financial support, the local council has decided to introduce a uniform tourism guest contribution from 1 January 2024.

"As a holiday region, we are in competition with other destinations throughout Germany," says Frank Reuter, Managing Director of Touristik GmbH Gerolsteiner Land. "A tourist guest contribution is already a successful measure in many regions to maintain and expand the tourist offer for visitors and citizens with a manageable contribution per guest. The income from the guest contribution is also used to create and finance new infrastructure projects, such as the Waldkugelbahn railway, which will benefit visitors and residents alike."

A digital registration system is linked to the collection of the guest contribution: In future, guests will be able to register digitally in their accommodation in the municipality and businesses will be able to settle the guest contribution digitally. In the registration portal, holiday guests will also find a wealth of information about their holiday destination and the holiday region. In future, overnight guests will also receive a guest bonus card. "The "Gerocard" offers preferential services for our guests. They benefit from attractive discounts on many offers," explains Frank Reuter.

The guest contribution will be introduced on 1 January 2024: Guests of Gerolsteiner Land will then pay a contribution of 0.75 euros per overnight stay in all accommodation. Children up to the age of 6 and business travellers are exempt from this. In the local community of Stadtkyll with the district of Schönfeld, the town of Hillesheim with its districts of Bolsdorf and Niederbettingen and the member businesses of the Vulkaneifel e.V. tourism association, the new guest registration system will be linked and merged with the existing ones.

"We understand that the new measures in tourism raise questions for our businesses.  It is very important to us to explain the planned measures to our partners in detail and to actively support all accommodation providers with the introduction of the system," says Frank Reuter.

In addition to the information events that have already taken place, the employees of Touristik GmbH are available by telephone on 06591 13-3100 or by email at touristinfo@gerolsteiner-land.de.
