Following in the footsteps of wild plants, this is what the Eifel tastes like in winter “winter herb guide & tree determination” followed by preparation and tasting

In the magic of the wintry and uniquely beautiful volcanic Eifel we will go on a journey of discovery and be surprised what the creation wants to give us even in the cold sleepy season. During a 1 km long relaxing herbal walk through our stunning Eifel nature, you will discover the precious treasures of nature with all your senses. Afterwards, we prepare some delicacies from our collected treasures by the warm fireplace and enjoy them in a cozy get-together.

The Siegfried Line was a military defense system on the western border of the German Reich that was around 630 km long and consisted of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and countless trenches and anti-tank barriers. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border southwards to the Swiss border. The complex was built by the National Socialists between 1936 and 1940. Our hike leads to numerous remnants (bunkers, anti-tank ditches, hump line) of the Westwall. Landscape hike with the "Volcano Gardeners" of the Eifelverein through the volcanic village of Steffeln to the Steffeln Volcano Garden. The former lava mining at the Steffelnkopf has decimated the volcanic cone, which used to be more than 600 m high. This exposed the volcanic layers inside. The exposed volcanic vent was converted into an experimental and educational volcano. Hocheifelweg 3. Etappe Hillesehim - Niederehe mit dem Eifelverein Gerolstein

We explore the 3rd stage from Hillesheim to Niederehe. The 11 km long tour is considered easy. We start in Hillesheim and reach the Schwedenschanze. After a short break, we continue through Berndorf and Kerpen to Niederehe. A visit to the monastery church is worthwhile before we conclude the hiking day with a rest. The ride to/from Gerolstein costs 3 € per person.
