Why is it so cold in the caves, what is the story behind the millstones and why do the bats feel so at home here? An exciting journey through time awaits explorers, adventurers and treasure hunters in the ramified cave system. But before we explore the caves, we will use a map and compass to find our way through the Fischbach volcano area. Distance: approx. 4 km.

In addition to an interactive introduction to volcanology and rock science for budding volcanologists, in this workshop we dedicate ourselves to individual accessible volcanoes and what they offer and can be seen in them. We will look for interesting stones and minerals, learn about their differences in colour, hardness and other properties and then know, for example, whether they are of volcanic origin. Sturdy shoes and (weather) appropriate clothing are recommended. Photo equipment, magnifying glass, container for rock samples are useful. On the first weekend of Lent, the tradition of driving out winter is celebrated in the Eifel region. A burning wheel wrapped in straw is rolled down the "Baarlay" to welcome spring. Afterwards, eggs and bacon or "Heedeligkooche" are eaten. The hike is approximately 10 km long. Please bring a flashlight.
