Gerolstein swingt -Schmitzbackes & Co

Apr 1, 2026

Hillesheim

The group "Schmitzbackes & Co" is known for handmade music without great technical effort. The musicians primarily use acoustic instruments, such as the accordion, piano, drums, acoustic guitar, double bass, or even the violin. The musical spectrum is broad. The program includes jazz standards as well as entertainment music from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, sometimes a blues, with the musical boundaries here – as often – not being so far apart. And there are also one or two self-composed pieces included. A particularly interesting sound image is created by the rarely used instruments accordion and violin in this music.

Eifel Literatur Festival 2026 - Martina Hefter
Mar 13, 2026

Germany's "Novel of the Year 2024": this has been written by Martina Hefter, according to critics, with "Hey, good morning, how are you?" She received the "German Book Prize" for this in mid-October, awarded for the 20th time in 2024. With strong media attention and significant sales impact: by early December 2024, 150,000 copies had already been sold. Translation rights have been sold in eleven languages. 197 titles were submitted for the book prize. What it's about: the everyday life of a financially precarious writer couple in Leipzig. About the wife's care for her sick husband - and about con artists who are active on the internet, contacting lonely women worldwide and pretending to offer them love. Ultimately, they are only after their money. Which is where they mistakenly target the wrong writer... For the writer Daniel Kehlmann, Hefter's book was the most important novel of 2024: "There hasn't been a more deserving winner of the German Book Prize in a long time." Gerolstein swingt - Jazzlight
Mar 28, 2026

The musicians of Jazzlight have likely already built a large fan base in the Gerolstein area. Years ago, they were able to demonstrate their skills at the event "Dixie City." The band has, of course, evolved musically and is now a groovy combo consisting of six jazz-loving musicians from the Cologne area. They arrange jazz compositions, standards, and classics from the Great American Songbook with a lot of fun and passion. They delve into the genres of swing, Latin, and funk, bringing this music to the stage at Leo's. A musical highlight awaits visitors at this year's "Gerolstein swings." Free admission!
