On the trail of mineral water

The water on our planet ultimately comes from volcanic activity, which brought lava, water vapor and other gases to the earth's surface. Rivers and oceans were formed from the condensed water vapor in the primeval atmosphere.

Mineral water is formed by the seepage of rainwater. The water seeps into the ground over decades. The water passes through various layers of soil and rock, where it is naturally filtered and absorbs various minerals and trace elements.

The magnesium-calcium mineralisation here comes from sandstone and claystone as well as overlying volcanic rock. The high content of carbonic acid originates from the Eifel volcanism and gives the water the name ‘Säuerling’ (acidulous). A total of five springs are known in Birresborn, several of which were of great economic importance. Today, drinking water can be taken from the Lindenquelle and the Fischbach-Drees.
