Desert sands, volcanoes, and caves near Gerolstein-Roth

A fascinating area in the Vulkaneifel, created by volcanism that left us beautiful exposures. We explore caves in old volcanic slag and visit ancient red desert sands not far away, where the only dinosaur of the Eifel was found. The path leads us along small trails to enchanted volcanic exposures that stand like artworks in the landscape, while also being testimonies to devastating natural disasters. For cave exploration, we descend into an old millstone cave, and from the Rother Kopf, we have one of the most magnificent views over the Eifel, looking deep into the volcano. Very beautiful volcanic layers await us at the Rother Hecke. Later, we traverse intricate sandstone deposits.
