On the weekend of September 5th/6th, 2026, the local community and church congregation will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Mary Column together with all local associations.
The Oberbettingen Marian Column is the only one in the Vulkaneifel district and, as the "Fatima Column" (in memory of the Mother of God who appeared to three shepherd children as a "white lady" several times in 1917), is also unique between Cologne and Trier.
Partially through voluntary work, the people of Oberbettingen have erected this Marian monument in a community project involving citizens, clubs, and stonemasons. The figure of Mary was created based on the model of Fatima. The 2 m high statue stands on a 6 m high pedestal on the cover plate, facing the church of St. Nicholas and the town center. Pastor Schneider had the figure made in a workshop in Trier.
On the weekend of September 5th/6th, 2026, the local and church community will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the erection of the Marian column together with all local clubs.
The highlight of these days will be the pontifical mass with Auxiliary Bishop Jörg-Michael Peters on Sunday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m. in the schoolyard in front of the community center, at the foot of the Mother of God.
The local and church community and all Oberbettingen clubs look forward to many visitors for this festive occasion. Food and drink will be provided on both days, so we can look forward to carefree hours.
