The Jünkerath Railway Museum will participate for the first time in the nationwide "Day of Rail" on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free admission. Visitors can expect a diverse exhibition on railway history featuring historical uniforms, model locomotives, insights into the planning archive, a book flea market, and a multilingual audio guide. The action day is also part of the anniversary year of the Jünkerath Railway Friends, who will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2026.

Railway enthusiasts and anyone interested in the history of the railway can look forward to a special museum day: The Jünkerath Railway Museum will participate for the first time in the nationwide “Day of the Rail” on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and entry is free on this day.

The Jünkerath railway enthusiasts want to use the action day to present the museum's diverse collection to a wide audience. Among other things, visitors can see historical railway uniforms from more than 100 years of railway history as well as scale models of locomotives in 1:20.

A particular focus is on the railway history of the Eifel. The museum has an extensive plan archive with historical documents and plans regarding railway routes and facilities in the region. On the Day of the Rail, visitors will have the opportunity to gain insight into this archive.

Book lovers will also find something for themselves: At the book sale and book flea market, the railway friends offer their own publications as well as a large selection of second-hand railway literature.

Those who wish to explore the exhibition on their own can use the audio guide available since 2026. At more than 40 stations, it provides interesting information about the exhibition and railway history – in German, English, and Dutch.

“The Day of the Rail is a great opportunity for us to make our museum and our work even better known in the region,” explains Manfred Jehnen, chairman of the Jünkerath railway friends. “We explicitly want to reach not only railway enthusiasts. Families and local people who have not visited our museum yet are warmly welcomed.”

The nationwide “Day of the Rail” takes place as part of the European Mobility Week. Numerous events will draw attention to the significance of rail transport.

For the Jünkerath railway friends, the action day is also part of a special year: The association was founded in 1986 and will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026.
