The Gerolstein Dolomites

Around 380 million years ago, a warm, subtropical shallow sea lay here, in which mighty reefs of stromatopores - relatives of sponges - and corals formed. After dolomitisation, subsidence and folding of the rocks, the Devonian deposits were lifted out again. The result was the present-day Gerolstein Dolomites, which rise precipitously above the Kyll valley north of the centre of Gerolstein.

With an area of about 102 hectares, the area around the Gerolstein Dolomites has been designated a nature reserve since 1990. More information Show on map

Church of the Redeemer in Gerolstein

The Church of the Redeemer in Gerolstein is undoubtedly one of the places guests should visit during a stay in the fountain town of Gerolstein.

Millions of mosaic stones, which make the interior of the church glow spectacularly depending on the incidence of light, bear witness to the wealth and power of the last German emperor. More information Show on map
