Are you interested in the Roman finds in our vacation region?

Here you will find everything at a glance and other interesting information about projects and the Roman road.

Were the Romans really here?

In 54 BC, Caesar subjected the Celts who inhabited the Eifel to Roman rule. From then on, the Romans cultivated the region and founded roadside settlements, large estates and built the famous water pipeline from the Eifel to Cologne.

You can still discover traces of the Roman era in many places in the Eifel today. Including here in the Gerolsteiner Land vacation region. Take a look at our finds here!

Roads of the Romans

You can still discover traces of the Roman era in many places in the Eifel today. The "Roman roads" connect these ancient sights with each other.

In total, the Roman roads include around 100 stations. In addition to the Eifel, the Hunsrück, Mosel-Saar, Saarland and Luxembourg Moselle regions are also part of the Roman roads.

There is even an archaeological association in Duppach in our vacation region. A small, ancient village in our vacation region. However, the traces from Roman times that have been found in the area are even older. A scientific project team from the University of Cologne is reconstructing and documenting the finds. The association was founded to support this long-term, costly work.
