The Westwall was a military defense system approximately 630 km long along the western border of the German Reich, consisting of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels, as well as countless trenches and anti-tank obstacles. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border southward to the Swiss border. The facility was constructed by the Nazis between 1936 and 1940. The Slaughterhouse Jazz Band is a long-standing jazz formation from the Vulkaneifel, which initially dedicated itself primarily to traditional New Orleans jazz and Dixieland. However, many more advanced and well-known jazz standards are now part of the program. Their music is characterized by lively, swinging rhythms with an emphasized brass front (trumpet and saxophone). The joy of improvisation in the typical interplay of the soloists is also a well-known feature of their spontaneity and visible joy in playing. In short, an authentic, handmade sound that strongly reminds one of the jazz clubs of New Orleans. Free admission!
