On the Trails of the Railway from Gerolstein to Hillesheim - between Dohm and HillesheimThis year we will hike approximately 10 km along the former route between Dohm and Hillesheim. Along the way, Helmut Bell and Manfred Jehnen from the Jünkerath Railway Friends will share the history of the line. We cordially invite you to four special wine hikes along the Berndorf Cultural Trail. This time, the focus is on a grape variety with many faces: Riesling. Under the motto: “One vineyard, one grape variety, three facets – discover the diversity of Riesling.” Three methods of vinification, one origin, full of character and depth.” All hikes take place on the Berndorf Cultural Trail – a route that connects nature experiences with regional history. The path is stroller-friendly, with only a few short sections through fields. As a newly established winery, we are excited to share our passion for wine, nature, and enjoyment with you. The Siegfried Line was a military defense system on the western border of the German Reich that was around 630 km long and consisted of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and countless trenches and anti-tank barriers. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border southwards to the Swiss border. The complex was built by the National Socialists between 1936 and 1940. Our hike leads to numerous remnants (bunkers, anti-tank ditches, hump line) of the Westwall. Under the expert guidance of a mushroom expert, we offer interested participants, including children, a mushroom hike in the forests of the Gerolstein region. After an assessment and identification of mushrooms, a "Eifel Mushroom Pan" will be prepared on an open fire with wood. The start is at 1:00 PM. The mushroom search lasts about 2 hours.
