In addition to an interactive introduction to volcanology and rock science for budding volcanologists, in this workshop we dedicate ourselves to individual accessible volcanoes and what they offer and can be seen in them. We will look for interesting stones and minerals, learn about their differences in colour, hardness and other properties and then know, for example, whether they are of volcanic origin.Sturdy shoes and (weather) appropriate clothing are recommended. On the Trails of the Railway from Gerolstein to Hillesheim - between Dohm and HillesheimThis year we will hike approximately 10 km along the former route between Dohm and Hillesheim. Along the way, Helmut Bell and Manfred Jehnen from the Jünkerath Railway Friends will share the history of the line. The Siegfried Line was a military defense system on the western border of the German Reich that was around 630 km long and consisted of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and countless trenches and anti-tank barriers. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border southwards to the Swiss border. The complex was built by the National Socialists between 1936 and 1940. Our hike leads to numerous remnants (bunkers, anti-tank ditches, hump line) of the Westwall.
