Hillesheim looks back on a long history: thanks to the Roman road and castle, the town developed early on into an important center of the Eifel and today combines historical charm with a lively shopping and gastronomic scene. The tour from the tourist information office takes you to the most important sights such as the town wall, castle, church and crime house; a free flyer is available on site.
Situated on a Roman road and boasting a stately castle, the Frankish settlement was a central location in the Eifel region very early on. Hillesheim was first mentioned in 943 in the register of goods of the monastery in Prüm. The Franconian nobleman Hildin - the home of Hildin - is said to have given the town its name.
Well-stocked department stores and small boutiques, specialist craft stores and a number of cozy cafés and restaurants invite you to linger. The Eifelsteig trail, the Eifelkrimi hiking trail and other cycle and themed trails demonstrate the diversity around Hillesheim.
The tour starts at the tourist information office, Am Markt 1. Follow Grabenstraße uphill a little, then turn right into Burgstraße.
