The short circular trail combines wide views with ancient stones: the Gönnersdorfer Leyen are remains from the Middle Devonian, around 380 million years old.
The circular trail starts at the village and fountain square, which is also the starting point for the educational trail on the history of the village and its landscape.
In the pavilion on the square, you can find interesting information about the village ecology on descriptive boards. The trail leads over the road on the Giesenberg to the top of the hill. From there you have wonderful panoramic views over the Kyll valley, the Mäuerchenberg, Hierneberg and Pinnert nature reserves with their juniper bushes. The route continues along forest and meadow paths to the Gönnersdorfer Leyen. A remnant from the past. The limestone rocks were formed around 380 million years ago, in the Middle Devonian period, in a warm shallow sea. The limestone later became the harder dolomite. Erosion and erosion by the adjacent Kyll river left the weather-resistant dolomite rocks of the "Leyen". Today, the mighty chain of dolomite rocks is around 200 meters long and up to 25 meters high.
