This circular tour leads around the Eifel village of Ormont up to an altitude of 655 m and runs a lot along wide forest paths.
The starting point of our moorland trail hike is the church of St. Margarete on Kirchweg in the centre of Ormont. We turn right into Weinstraße, which leads us out of the village. The trail then climbs gently through the Dreisbach valley up to the Rothenborn hill (656 m). On the way, you pass the Prüm spring. The Prüm is an approx. 85 km long tributary of the Sauer. Passing the source of the Prüm, we continue along the Neuendorfer Feldflur, cross the K64 and reach the Bragphenn raised bog, the highlight of the hike. The saddle rain raised bog was formed about 7000 years ago and consists of a valuable natural landscape with heather moorland, peat moss stands and a Carpathian birch grove. Peat used to be extracted there. Numerous rare and interesting plants thrive in the small moor, from the Atlantic bell heath, cranberry, orchid, marsh marigold to the sundew, from the pointed-flowered rush to the spotted orchid. You can cross the sensitive wetland by means of a wooden footbridge. The hike also leads through the Rupbach Valley past the remains of the former tank traps of the Westwall. Don't forget the wind turbines that cross your path along the way.
Bragphenn is a worthwhile hiking destination in all seasons.

From the car park, turn right into Ulmenstraße. Follow this past the petrol station and then turn right into Weinstraße. Further uphill, we keep left (signposted O1 and Moorpfad) and follow the road into the forest, past fish ponds and a refuge. After the ponds, take the left-hand path through a gate. We continue to follow the signs for the moorland path and after a while reach the Prümquelle spring. A hut there invites you to take a break. The spring itself is a few steps away in the forest. We continue past 2 wind turbines and then keep right until this path ends at the country road. We follow the road to the right and after a few metres turn left into a car park. There are some benches and tables here, as well as an information board about the Braghenn raised bog. After a few metres, the path turns right and we find ourselves in the raised bog. Follow the footbridge to the end of the moor and keep to the right. We pass a small wood with the remains of the former anti-tank barriers of the Westwall. Now you can already see the first houses of Ormont. We follow the Schneifelstraße and return to the church via Ulmenstraße.
With good preparation, hiking in the Eifel is great fun. Wear appropriate clothing for the time of year and sturdy shoes. Take a rucksack with drinks, provisions and a mobile phone. Sure-footedness is required on the boardwalk through the moor.
