Description
The SY 5 hiking trail takes us to the Eifel heights near Schüller. From the Eifelblick Steinbüchel viewpoint, we have a magnificent panoramic view of the volcanic Eifel with its volcanic peaks.
The SY 5 hiking trail takes us to the Eifelhöhe near Schüller. From Eifelblick Steinbüchel, we have a wonderful panoramic view of the volcanic Eifel with its volcanic peaks. The Steinbüchel nature reserve is a special natural area with rare plants and insect species. The hiking trail runs mainly on gravel and water-bound surfaces and has a forest cover of approx. 70%. It provides a varied view of the Eifel landscape.
Special features along the way are the upper reservoir in the Wirfttal valley near the Landal Green Parks vacation park, the Eifel view Steinbüchel to the west of Schüller at just under 600 m above sea level - waypoint 7-Wege and the Hargartental valley to the west of the Wirft. The Wirfttal nature reserve is a special habitat worthy of protection for rare animals and plants.

The entire hiking trail is marked with: SY 5. From the reception of the Landal Green Park holiday park, we walk over the dam of the upper reservoir in the Wirfttal and then turn left - walk over the campsite and follow the signposted route to the road to Schüller. We then follow the K64 road (little traffic) for approx. 500 metres. Then we keep left, cross the Wirftbach stream on the road embankment and turn right onto a dirt track, which leads us uphill in serpentines to the Eifel-Blick Schüller. At this point, our route is identical to the Volcano Trail, which runs from Esch to Gerolstein. We follow the volcano trail to waypoint 7-Wege, where we turn right downhill into the Hargartental valley. We then reach the Stadtkyll - Schönfeld road at the bottom of the valley, which we follow back to the holiday park reception.
Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Carry a rucksack with drinks, provisions and a mobile phone. For your own safety, please always stay on the designated paths and do not leave them. Particularly in autumn, please note that leaves lying on the ground cover uneven surfaces, roots, stones etc. on the path and wet leaves can be very slippery.

Bus route 540 runs from Jünkerath railway station in the direction of Prüm, Gerberweg to Stadtkyll, Schwammertstraße. From here it is about a 5-minute walk to the starting point
